Qoya the Book
When Qoya founder Rochelle Schieck told me she’d written a book and wanted me to design it, I immediately turned to modern Bible fonts — that’s what it felt like I was designing! I also broke apart the Qoya yantra (the symbol in the “O” of Qoya, which we commissioned from artist Daniel Frank) to make a map for the book, and I used the symbols throughout the interior design to indicate each chapter’s “direction” and help the reader quickly find exercises throughout.
The cover image came together really quickly; Rochelle had done a photo shoot with Daniel Johnson, and when I was looking through the photos and saw the image of Rochelle with her hand raised to the sky, I knew it was the one. Rochelle’s connection and reverence for nature and her body is clear in this photo, as well as the wise, wild and free essence of Qoya.
