I was at the first Qoya class back in 2009 in New York City after being friends with Rochelle Schieck for a couple years. Qoya is her answer to the question, “People tell me to get out of my head and into my body, but how do I do that?” Rochelle gets people MOVING, even people like me who are not dancers, not athletic, and not particularly keen to move. Our creative collaboration is celebrating its 10th year, and I love using my talents to help her spread Qoya around the world. We’ve built 2 online communities, launched an e-commerce site, developed and launched 4 online courses, expanded her retreat offerings and marketing strategy, restructured her teacher training program, and published her first book, in addition to dancing, dreaming, and traveling the world together. If you want to know what it’s like to work with me, Rochelle knows better than anyone, and it’s been my honor and privilege to support her work that’s changed my life and the lives of many.
A note on the Qoya logo: when Rochelle and I were working on her company website redesign, we decided to do a refresh of her visual branding as well. I lightened her color palette from black and pink to the blue, pink, and green palette that extends across her many products and projects. We then commissioned Daniel Frank, an artist who describes his work as “visual medicine,” to create the yantra, the symbol in the “O” of Qoya. The yantra broken apart has meaning infused in every piece, and I created the “map of Qoya” to share the depth of thought put into each piece. A story to illustrate – a logo is never just a logo. It tells the story of your company, and each piece is chosen with intention. Approaching your branding this way is powerful medicine!
